This week we had a visit from a real Firefighter....

The children had prepared some questions fo r him and we learnt all about what a firefighter does, his uniform and the fire engine.  The children listened really carefully.

Father's Day Forest School Event...

We've all had a fantastic time sharing the Forest School experience with dads, uncles and grandads today.  We made some brilliant dens, identified minibeasts and made the best of the better weather. Thank you to everyone who made the time to come..we really enjoyed it and I know your children did too!  Have a look at the photos in the slide show and see if you can spot yourself...

We had a really exciting time during the rest of the term, please check out the pictures in the galleries below...

Progress on the chicks....

We had a visit from Caroline at the local RSPCA...

Changes in the Forest School ...

Welcome to Summer 1...

We've had some great fun in nursery over the past 2 weeks!  Spring has definitely sprung down in the Forest School - even though we had lots of snow this week.

We've also got something very special in nursery at the moment - see the clue below.  They are due to hatch on Wednesday and you are welcome to come and see them.

We've also had fun in our new role play areas.  We have a vets inside and outside there is currently a garage area and a stage.  The children love them.

We are revisiting phonics sounds that we have done before and are sorting things beginning with different sounds.  Our Talk 4 Writing book this half term is The Little Red Hen.

Week 3........

We had great fun this week.

We told the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff using some masks, outside using our climbing frame as the bridge over the stream.

We made some Yum Yum biscuits and they really were yummy!

We went to the Forest School and made our own paint and brushes, then made some mud creations.  Please check out the pictures below...

We learnt the sound Uu in phonics this week.  After much deliberation we have decided not to post the Mr Thorne video for this sound.  His "southern" pronunciation of the sound is quite different to our "northern" one and the words he sounds out, sound quite different to the way we would say them.

Welcome back to school for Spring 2 Term.....

This half term we will be looking at the story "I Love Animals" for our Talk 4 Writing text and looking for signs of Spring.

These are some of the things we have done so far.

Last week we had our very successful Mother's Day Tea Party.  Lots of Mums and Grandmas managed to come along and we all had a fantastic time.  Please take a look at the photographs below...

In phonics we looked at the sounds Gg and Oo and found lots of words that have those sounds in them.  Below are links to Mr Thorne videos for both sounds...

Happy New Year!  Welcome back to school for Spring 1 Term...

This half term we welcome many new children to our nursery.

All this half term we will be using the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears to inspire us with our activities.  One of the main things we aim to do is to learn the story by heart.  We use "Talk For Writing" in main school and will be using some of the basic principles to help us learn it in Nursery.  First we read it as a class and individually, then learn it with some signing, then we write a story map with the book, then use the story map without the book.  Very exciting!

Week 6...

The final week of this half term.  We found out all about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated.  We watched some videos on Cbeebies about it, then made lots of different things such as a paper chain Chinese dragon and made one big enough to dance in! We tasted Chinese food which most of us liked.

We are still making visits to the Forest School and we are already beginning to see signs of spring!

There are links to the cbeebies videos below

 http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/chinese-new-year

This week's sound of the week was Dd and we found lots of words that have the d sound either at the beginning or in the word.  We watched Mr Thorne does phonics to see what Geraldine found...

Week 5...

This week we had a class treat for good behaviour.  We made fruit kebabs.  The children enjoyed finding out how to use knives safely to cut their own choice of fruit and then threading them onto kebab sticks.  We then put some melted chocolate on top.  They were yummy!

The children at the end of the week finally got to visit the forest school and found a mysterious skull.  Check out the pictures below.

Our sound of the week was Mm and here's Geraldine the Giraffe with her video of things that contain that sound...

Week 4...Goodness me! Time is going by so fast!

Another super week in Nursery!  We went back to the Forest School after a long break.  Unfortunately the children at the end of the week didn't get to go down due to high winds - but hopefully they will go next week!  Thank you for sending your children with appropriate clothing - they are really getting much more independent at getting on their own coats, boots, scarves etc.  That really helps the adults when we have 34 children to get ready.  There are some photos in the gallery showing what we got up to.

We had a letter from the 3 bears with a problem!  The children loved investigating how they could make triangle shaped sandwiches from square shaped bread - and then eating the sandwiches of course!

We made some beds from junk modelling for the 3 bears.  We had great fun making them different sizes to suit the particular bear in question.

In phonics this week we learnt the sound Rr...check out Mr Thorne does phonics video below....

Week 3.......

This week we did some more work on  the story of Goldilocks and the Three bears, adding more Makaton signs to help us tell it.  We really enjoyed investigating ice blocks with toys frozen inside - talking about melting, freezing and trying to discover how the toys got inside the ice - AND how we could get them out.

In phonics this week we learned the sound Hh.  Please ask if you haven't received the Jolly Phonics sheet for this week - below is Mr Thorne does phonics link for this sound...

Next week we will be going to Forest School - the sessions are Tuesday morning or Friday afternoon.  Please make sure your child is appropriately dressed.  Wellingtons if possible, if not stout shoes as it will be muddy! If you have one please send your child in a coat with a hood and layers of clothing are better than 1 thick one.  Any questions please ask!

Week 2...

We continued to work on the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears story, with more retelling of the story, playing Goldilocks lotto, painting some trees for our display and using the Beebot to find characters and objects from the story.  We sang the song and did the actions to "Stir up the Porridge" from Sticky Kids. We made some toast and decided whether we would like jam or marmalade on it - it was yummy!

The biggest hit of this week was spending more time in our movement play area - using the cone and the squashy ball.  Fabulous fun!  Check out the slide show below.

Phonics sound of the week was Ee - not many things begin with this sound, so no video this week!

Week 1

This week we have explored the texture of dry porridge oats, then followed instructions to make some to eat.  We have set up a role play area with lots of dressing up costumes so we can pretend we are in the story of Goldilocks.  We have painted some pictures of bears.  Please take a look at the pictures below to see what we have been up to....

From this week in phonics we have separated the children into 2 groups.  Some children will carry on learning the phonics sounds from the Jolly Phonics scheme whilst others are working on their listening, attention and understanding skills before we move them any further with their phonics individual sounds.  If you have any questions about your child's learning please speak to a member of nursery staff.  There is a link below to the video from Mr Thorne does phonics, for the sound for this week which is Cc, Kk.

All this half term we will be singing the rhyme "When Goldilocks Went to the House of the Bears" and you can find a video of this below...

Welcome back to school for Autumn 2!  This half term we will be finding out all about Festivals and Celebrations, such as Halloween, Bonfire Night, birthdays and Christmas.  We will investigate what these celebrations have in common and what is different about them.

Events this half term - this is a very busy half term - please don't miss out and make a note of these events - please ask a member of nursery staff if you would like more details about any of these events.

Wednesday 16th December - Nursery Christmas Party and singing.

Friday 18th December - Christmas jumper day.

Week Beginning 23rd November...

This week we started to think about getting ready for Christmas!!!!  We watched a video about advent preparations that you can see here....http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/lets-celebrate-christmas .

We went down to the woods for the first time in a few weeks and were amazed at how different it looked - almost all the trees were bare.  We had made lots of bird feeders and we put these on the trees for the birds to eat.  Check out the pictures below

We have been learning some phonics letter sounds, both their sound and their name. The children have enjoyed s a t p so far. We have discovered Mr Thorne Does Phonics - this is a channel on Youtube where Mr Thorne and Geraldine the giraffe have fun talking about a single letter sound.  Very educational but funny too!

Week beginning 16th November...

This week we have been continuing to look at different types of celebrations.  We watched a Cbeebies video about how Hindus celebrate Divali and compared it with celebrations that we know about such as birthdays, bonfire night and Halloween.  We noticed that there are many similarities in the way people celebrate for example they wear their best clothes and celebrate with friends and family.  You can look at the videos here...http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/lets-celebrate-diwali

Week beginning 9th November 2015:

This week we have been finding out about Remembrance Dary and why people wear a poppy.  We watched a lovely video from Cbeebies called Poppies.  Click on this link and see it here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/cbeebies/episode/b04p4zsl/poppies We talked about how the characters might be feeling, how the scenery and music changed and what sort of hat the animals sheltered under.  Each child in nursery made a poppy and we made a poppy cascade that you can see in the nursery entrance.  There's also a photo below.

Week beginning 2nd November 2015:

This week we have been celebrating Halloween and Bonfire Night.  On Wednesday we had a Halloween disco and party.  We made spider web biscuits, had special party food and played games.  Everyone wore special Halloween clothes - it was fantastic!  Take a look at the pictures in this gallery and see if you can see yourself!

We have started to learn some individual speech sounds using the Jolly Phonics scheme.  Each week we will learn a new sound.  This week we have looked at the sound Ss, naming, writing and finding things that begin with that sound.  You can help at home by completing the Jolly Phonics homework sheet and by looking for things in your house that begin with that sound.

Autumn term:

We have been welcoming lots of new children to nursery over the past few weeks.  They have all settled in beautifully.

Our topic this half term is Ourselves and our families....

We have been finding out how many people are in our family - how many live in our house and if we have any brothers and sisters.  We still need more pictures of your family that we can put on our display, please feel free to send us a hard copy that we can show or send a photograph on the nursery email address which is nursery@eastardsley.org.uk.  We'd love to share it!

We have been finding out about our body - how many fingers, how many hands, feet etc...

Every week we visit the Forest School that is on the school site.  This is a taste of what we get up to there!
